As the Michelin Ginetta GT SuperCup draws to a close at Brands Hatch this weekend, Ginetta are delighted to announce that Jamie Orton and Tom Oliphant have both committed to a return to the championship for 2014 with Century Motorsport.
Orton – who joined the series in 2012 – has enjoyed two pole position starts and three podium finishes in 2013, and his impressive pace has clearly marked him out as one to watch for 2014. Meanwhile, Oliphant is a relative newcomer to the grid, having joined the grid for the Rockingham and Silverstone round.
Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson said; “We are delighted to be able to announce our first pair of 2014 Ginetta racers before the 2013 has even come to an end. The news is testament to the popularity of Ginetta’s series as the place to race.
“Both Jamie and Tom are great guys. Jamie is a quick driver – pole positions and podiums support that – but he just hasn’t had the luck this season to mount a full championship bid. Not only that, but Tom arrived at Rockingham in style – qualifying within the top five despite it being his first time behind the wheel!”
Opting to take advantage of Ginetta’s championship packages, Orton and Oliphant will receive a brand new Ginetta G55 GT4 Cup Car, as well as a full season’s entry and Friday testing fees, plus tyres and fuel.
Commenting on his commitment to the series, Orton said; “Really looking forward to another year in the Michelin Ginetta GT SuperCup, it’s the best championship in the UK. The car is superb, the Ginetta people are great and I couldn’t ask for more: but I will anyway, this year I’d like to fight for the championship, get some race wins early on and put the Century car where it belongs, at the front. I’ve got the speed now and all the other ingredients, I just need it to all click. The lease deal is great, really competitive pricing and attractive to both new and existing entrants”
Speaking about the announcement, a delighted Century Motorsport Team Principal Nathan Freke added; “I’m thrilled that before we’ve even finished 2013, we’ve got our first two drivers signed for 2014 already. As a team this gives us a huge confidence boost and having had the chance to run Tom twice already this year, provides us with a good indication where his strengths and weaknesses are as we plan our winter testing programme.
“Jamie’s qualifying pace has been really good and he’s improving all the time. He hasn’t been rewarded with the results he deserves in the races but I think we can be on the podium in Brands. We’re all really looking forward to what the future has in store!”
