With a lap time of 1:48.024, German driver Pierre Kaffer was fastest in qualifying for the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO. Pierre Kaffer has put the #66 Black Pearl Racing by Rinaldi Ferrari F458 Italia GT3 on pole position for the race. Second place went to Matteo Malucelli, 1.267 seconds from the pole-winning time. Malucelli’s car, the #4 Scuderia Praha Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 will start on the front row. The second row of the grid has Tom Onslow-Cole in the #30 Ram Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 and Robert Renauer in the #7 HB Racing Team Herberth Porche 997 GT3 R.
Kaffer’s fast lap came at the very end of the session. Earlier Onslow-Cole and Renauer traded fastest laps and were later joined by Malucelli. It was a stirring battle that was also joined by Rolf Ineichen in the #1 Stadler Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3 R. The last of the lead group included Christiaan Frankenhout in the #9 Hofor Racing Mercedes SLS AMG.
The fastest car in the all-Porsche 997 class was the #20 MRS GT Racing entry driven by American driver Charles Espenlaub. He set a 1:54.320 for the class pole. Espenlaub was just ahead of Martin Konrad in the #52 MSG Motorsport Porsche and Stanislav Jedlinski in the #50 GT3 Poland Porsche. The SP2 class leader was the #150 GC Automobile GC 10 V8 driven by Lionel Amrouche. “Chris Tiger” was the fastest driver in the A3T class, with the #96 LMS Engineering Audi TTRS2.
Other class winners in qualifying included Michael Fischer in the A5 class (#31 Duller Motorsport BMW M3 E46) and Ollie Jackson in SP3 (#169 Speedworks Motorsport Ginetta G50). The CUP1 class was taken by Michael Schrey (#73 BMW M235i Racing) and A2 by Per Poulsen in the #115 Peugeot RCZ of Team K-Rejser.
Part 1 of the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO starts at 13:30 on Friday, 13 March. Part 1 ends at 17:30. The cars will then be placed overnight into parc ferme.
