Muscat’s Ahmad Al Harthy says the Oman Racing Team is as well prepared as it can be ahead of the 2015 Avon Tyres British GT Championship curtain-raiser just over a week from now, after ending the annual ‘Media Day’ test at Brands Hatch on Wednesday, 25th March, third fastest overall.
Linking-up with new team-mate Daniel Lloyd for the first time on an officially timed day in the UK, Ahmad was more than happy with the work the team completed over the course of the test’s three sessions and especially as the No.2 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 “ran like clockwork”.
Taking up residence in the top three of the times in each outing, the Oman Racing Team duo actually led the way during the morning with a pace-setting best of 45.560 seconds (95.44mph) around the 1.2-mile Indy Circuit.
In session two the duo posted the third quickest time of 46.177 seconds (94.17mph) and they were third again during the final run with a lap of 45.578 seconds (95.41mph), an excellent day’s work for all involved.
Underlining terrific consistency and clear front-running pace, Ahmad is confident the Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Ooredoo and National Bank of Oman-backed car will be a serious challenger once again this year.
“To be honest it was a good day, we showed good pace throughout and it was a great opportunity for me to familiarise myself with Dan’s driving and how we work together – things really are going very well”, commented Ahmad.
“We didn’t see all of our main competitors on track, which was a shame, but we got some very good track time and it was good being back at Brands Hatch. We had no issues at all, the car ran like clockwork, so we go to Oulton Park next weekend with a lot of confidence even though we know the competition will be even stronger this season.”
Rounds one and two of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship season, which are both 60-minute races, will take place on Monday, 6th April, at Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire. Practice and qualifying for the season-opening event will be held on Saturday, 4th April.
