Balfe Motorsport has decided to upgrade its effort in the International GT Open by switching to a brand new McLaren 650S as from the next round (and their home race) at Silverstone on 22-24 July. Shaun Balfe and Phil Keen are currently lying a close second in the overall standings that they led up to Le Castellet with their Ferrari F458, after an excellent start of the season which included taking a win at Estoril. The British pair will now be in a position to strengthen their title bid.
The decision to switch cars was taken by the Lincolnshire-based squad after a test at Rockingham last week, with the drivers finding the 650S “feels brilliant, controllable to drive, very quick and with a lot of grip.”
Shaun Balfe commented: “We are very excited about being a privateer McLaren team with the 650S.During the test, both Phil and me, as well as the team gained very quickly in confidence and speed with the car. We know a mid-season swap has its risks but McLaren have helped us fast track our knowledge of the car. We look forward to our home race at Silverstone and remaining races.”
