Green light for the fourth edition of the World Final of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. On Valencia’s “Ricardo Tormo” circuit, which hosted the sixth and last round of the three series Europe, Asia and North America last Friday, the “highlight” event of the season has got underway today with qualifying sessions and the first two races.
There has been entertainment on track, with 51 Huracán Super Trofeos at the start in the four classes and the protagonists of the continental one-make series engaged again in a high-level challenge.
The Italian Vito Postiglione left everyone behind in the race for PRO and PRO-AM drivers. The driver of Imperiale Racing took the lead during the pit-stops and finished ahead of the Dane Dennis Lind, who graduated European champion yesterday, with the colors of the team Raton Racing, and of the Italian-American Richard Antinucci, with the team Change Racing.
Bad luck for Loris Spinelli, who was the fastest in both qualifying sessions with the car of the team Antonelli Motorsport, but he was forced to withdraw after remaining in the lead at the beginning of the race, despite being involved in a couple of contacts.
Fourth place for the Latvian Harald Schlegelmilch (Artline Team Georgia), who preceded the eighteen-year-old Dutchman Rik Breukers (GDL Racing), fifth overall and first in the class PRO-AM, whose podium was completed respectively by the crews formed by Andrea Fontana and Lorenzo Veglia (Antonelli Motorsport) and Raffaele Giannoni (Automobile Tricolore).
Andrea Dovizioso, always in the PRO-AM, finished at the foot of the podium. The Ducati rider, protagonist of the MotoGP, after winning the second of the two races of the last round of the European series last Friday, has been one of the protagonists of this weekend and tomorrow he will start from the ninth position on the grid out of 25 drivers at the start.
The victory in the AM class was obtained by the Swiss Adrian Amstutz, who did an excellent sprint which allowed him to gain three positions during the initial lap, subsequently he reached the second position and then took the lead. The driver of the team Bonaldi Motorsport, who celebrated the European title in the PRO-AM class with Patrick Kujala yesterday, finished ahead of Nouri Shahin (Leipert Motorsport) and Shota Abkhazava (Artline Team Georgia), the latter succeeded in taking the lead in the early stages of the race, after starting from the second row.
In the Lamborghini Cup, the victory went to the American of DXDT Racing, Ross Chouest. The podium was completed respectively by the two Dutchmen of the team Van der Horst Motorsport, Gerard Van der Horst and William Van Deyzen.
Tomorrow, there will be two more fifty-minute races on schedule, which will award the world titles. Watch them in live streaming on http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming. The first race for the classes AM and Lamborghini Cup will kick off at 10.40 a.m. with a rolling start. Finally, Race 2 for the classes PRO e PRO-AM will start at 14.00.
From 11:40 a.m. to 12:00 instead, the audience will be entertained by the Lamborghini Air Show, with the acrobatic performance of a Zivko Edge 540 with a “Lamborghini” livery, i.e. the same airplane used in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
Vito Postiglione #23 – Imperiale Racing (first in the PRO class): “I wish to thank all the team members, who have been working intensively for three days. A rewarding result for them and for me has finally arrived. Apart from a difficult moment at the start, when I slightly collided with Kodric’s car, who had had a contact with Spinelli, there were no other problems during the race. Let’s cross the fingers for tomorrow”.
Rik Breukers #71 – GDL Racing (first in the PRO-AM): “I’m very happy because today’s race was really crazy, I had to recover after a difficult qualifying because of the traffic on track. I did a good start, I immediately gained some positions and then kept pushing till the end”.
Adrian Amstutz #34 – Bonaldi Motorsport (first in the AM class): “This has been definitely a weekend full of emotions. Yesterday, I conquered the European title together with Patrick and today I scored this victory as well. Talking about the race, at the beginning I was facilitated by the struggle which involved the two leading drivers and during the first lap, I managed to take the lead. Then, everything went smoothly till the end”.
