Tom Sharp will take on the best one-make Porsche drivers in the world around some of the most iconic race circuits in Europe and beyond next season as he makes an exciting move into the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with his family IDL Racing team.tom-sharp

Sharp makes the transition following two impressive seasons in the ultra-competitive Porsche Carrera Cup GB, during which he firmly established himself as a championship front-runner with nine outright podium finishes and the 2015 Rookie Class title.

The Mobil 1 Supercup stands at the top of Porsche’s pyramid of 20 one-make series across the world, with the championship racing on the biggest platform possible in motorsport, the support bill for the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The provisional 2017 calendar will see Sharp competing at a number of the European Grand Prix’s, taking in legendary circuits including Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and the jewel in the crown, Monaco, as well as travelling across the Atlantic for the trip to Mexico City.

The championship utilises the brand-new, second-generation Porsche 911 (Type 991) GT3 Cup car, a more powerful evolution of the car which Sharp has raced for the past two seasons, with his new machinery set to arrive at the team’s Surrey base in February.

The 25 year old is no stranger to the Supercup though, having made a huge impression during guest appearances on the British GP weekend at Silverstone in each of the past two seasons – superbly qualifying in the top ten on his debut in 2015, before battling to a brilliant race finish of seventh place this year.

For the first time since their transition into Porsche competition, the IDL Racing squad will also be expanding to a two-car outfit for their maiden Supercup campaign, with Sharp set to reap the benefits of working alongside fellow Carrera Cup GB graduate Mark Radcliffe.

Tom Sharp: “The Porsche Supercup is the fastest and most competitive single-make series in the world, so to think that we will be on the grid in 2017 is nothing other than incredible, this is a really big deal for me and the team.

“A massive thank you has to go to our loyal sponsors, as their continued support is what has made this happen. We should remain realistic about what we can achieve, but our accomplishments back in July at Silverstone will be our benchmark.”
