PERFECT WEEKEND IN BANGSAEN FOR B-QUIK RACING

B-Quik Racing enjoyed a highly successful conclusion to Thailand Super Series’ 2016 season at last weekend’s rescheduled Bangsaen Grand Prix by taking a clean sweep of wins in the headlining Super Car GTM category thanks to the efforts of Darryl O’Young as well as a sweep of the Teams’ trophies with Henk J. Kiks and Daniel Bilski capably bringing home the points and podiums.b-quik-racing

The final round of the TSS 2016 season was rescheduled to late February from its original date last November due to the national period of mourning meaning a very late finish to the racing year.

For the third straight year Darryl joined us especially for Bangsaen, which this edition celebrated the groundbreaking milestone of its 10th Anniversary. The Hong Kong driver came into the event with a record breaking five consecutive poles and wins here (2 in 2014 and 3 in 2015) so it was ‘game on’ to find out – with this year once again featuring a triple header – if he could make it eight out of eight.

However, for the third time he would again be back in our Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and this racecar, which has provided huge value to B-Quik Racing over the past five years, is due for retirement and in fact Porsche’s 997 variant hasn’t reached the overall podium in TSS this season as the competitive advances of Super Car GTM have rendered it uncompetitive for top order runners to contemplate. However, the crew worked very hard during the run up to the event to ensure the Porsche, along with the rest of our portfolio of racecars, were all perfectly prepared, ready and reliable for a demanding week of action in Bangsaen.

Making it a three strong line up in Super Car GTM were the Audi R8 LMS Cup entries of Henk and Daniel. Meanwhile, in Super Car GTC Attapot Sriprom was wrapping up his debut season in Super Car’s entry level category and he was joined in our second Porsche 996 GT3 Cup by Ian Ross Geekie who was making his debut with B-Quik Racing as well as returning to Bangsaen for the first time in five years.

Quite simply our week at the seaside played out perfectly and it started last Thursday as Darryl banged in three laps during qualifying that gave him pole position for all three races. Eight poles out of eight – that part of the record was ticked off before the racing weekend got underway. And with a best laptime in 1 minute and 36.86 seconds Darryl also became the fastest man to ever lap the 3.7 km Bangsaen Street Circuit. All our other drivers qualified very strongly and there were no incidents so we were good to go.

Come the weekend and Darryl was quite simply unstoppable as he claimed victory in all three races after relentlessly fending off the advances of the much newer and sophisticated Lamborghini Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo entries. His superb driving was backed up by the B-Quik crew which gave him a perfectly setup car that ran faultlessly.

Daniel, who was racing here for the first time, and Henk both made well deserved trips to the podium although both drivers also picked up punctures in one race that caused DNFs. Their hard work and effort ensured that we got the job done to nab the Teams’ trophy in all three races. A clean sweep of Drivers’ and Teams’ trophies in Thailand’s premier racing category.

In Super Car GTC Attapot and Ian both looked strong all week, the former bouncing back in the second race after getting punted off in the first to collect the points while Ian on his debut with us also looked smooth and quick.

That caps off the delayed 2016 Thailand Super Series racing season in real style and we now start to turn our attention to the new season with a real spring in our step. Thailand Super Series 2017 will kick off at Chang International Circuit in Buriram on 27-30 April. Full details of our driver and car line ups will be announced in due course.
