Following a successful start to the campaign at VLN 1, Nico will again join Bentley Team ABT at the the Nürburgring Nordschleife on the 8th April as they both continue their preparation for the 24 Hours Nürburgring.
Last Saturday, Nico Verdonck and Bentley Team ABT started their collaboration on the occasion of the first round of the 2017 VLN Endurance championship.
During a strong qualifying session, we saw the Bentley Continental GT3 #37 driven by Nico Verdonck, the German Christian Mamerow and the South African Jordan Lee Pepper achieve an excellent 5th place. This was confirmed by Christian Mamerow as from the start of the race by grabbing a provisional third place in a pack counting no less than 32 cars in the GT3 category. “Unfortunately we then lost contact with the leading group due to a race neutralisation – via a Code 60 – which was not in our favour”, Nico commented. “Several of our rivals opted to carry out refuelling at that moment whereas we were at 60 km/h on the track. And when it was our turn to arrive at the pits the race had taken off again at a normal pace.” The sister car completed the race in second place whilst a minor issue and a code 60 relegated the Verdonck-Mamerow-Pepper trio to 12th place. The Belgian’s first race with the Bentley Continental GT3 was a great experience and the overall team performance looks promising for the future.
Nico now looks forward to continuing the preparation for the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring with the team at VLN 2 and further laps in the impressive Bentley Continental GT3. “We had a good result at VLN1 but we also learnt a lot and we still have more work to do at VLN2 as we continue our preparation for the enormous challenge of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. I am delighted and honoured to have the opportunity to drive the Bentley Continental GT3 and to work with the extremely professional Bentley Team ABT”.
Nico concluded with the following: “I would like to thank all my fans for their great support and I hope to see you all at VLN 2 and during 24 Hours of Nürburgring May 27th and 28th!”
