Iconic Spa-Francorchamps will play host to round 2 of the International GT Open next weekend. Spa, located in the middle of the Ardennes Forest offers Drivex a new chance to shine with the Brazilian duo of Marcelo Hahn and Allam Khodair at the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT3 entered by the team founded by Miguel Ángel de Castro and Pedro de la Rosa.
Both Brazilian drivers delivered strong performances at Autódromo do Estoril, the curtain-raiser event to the 2017 season, as they fought for top honours in Pro-Am class and overall. In Portugal, on Saturday’s 70-minute race one, Khodair was in podium contention but Hahn was hit by another rival and it ruined their chances to kick off the season in style.
Hahn and Khodair will discover the circuit’s specific characteristics on Friday ahead of another weekend of excellent prospects. The Drivex-entered Mercedes AMG GT3 will face another strong field of almost 30 cars coming from all over Europe. Despite Spa-Francorchamps is always a demanding race weekend, as weather conditions always play a key role, Drivex has prepared the Mercedes for the toughest conditions possible. Besides, the team has also worked with their drivers in order to ensure competitiveness throughout the weekend.
Two free practice sessions will take place on Friday with a third session for Bronze-categorized drivers at the end of the day. On Saturday, Q1 is scheduled at 11.30 and the 70-minute race will get underway at 16.45. On Sunday, Q2 is scheduled at 9.45 and the second race will start at 14-15.
Miguel Ángel de Castro: “We have been working hard with our Mercedes during past weeks, just as the curtain-raiser event came to an end. Obviously, our results could have been much better but Lady Luck wasn’t on our side at key moments. Anyway we were pretty competitive with Marcelo and Allam. They proved to be one of the most competitive pairings in Pro-Am class. Spa-Francorchamps is always a challenge for any driver. But I’m sure our work with them and their experience will pay off and our team will be competitive once again at Spa.”
