After a successful first edition, which saw about thirty drivers and eleven teams at the start, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East has also been confirmed in 2018.

The “formula” will be the same with three double rounds, all of which taking place in the United Arab Emirates. The opening round is scheduled on February 2-3 on the 5,554 meters of the Yas Marina circuit, which has been hosting the F1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi since 2009. After a two week’s break, the series will then move to Dubai on February 16-17; the same circuit will also host the final round on March 2-3.

The weekend format will remain unchanged and will be the same as the other three continental series: two one-hour free practice sessions, two 20-minute qualifying sessions and two fifty-minute races with a rolling start and mandatory pit-stop. The class composition will also be the same and drivers will be divided into PRO, PRO-AM, AM e Lamborghini Cup.

The fourth one-make series for Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeos can therefore be considered as an additional reference championship and testing ground for drivers and teams racing in Europe, Asia and North America. Moreover, it is also an opportunity to return to the track a couple of months before the start of the three main series, after a short winter break following the fifth edition of the World Final, which will take place next November at Imola.

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East will act a preparatory step for various GT championships that are experiencing a big growth in the Asian region. Thanks to the Middle East series, several drivers have become known: for example the twenty-three-year-old Axcil Jefferies, coming from single-seaters (with experience in GP2 and Indy Lights). With the colors of GDL Racing, the Zimbabwean driver and his teammate, the young Dutchman Rik Breukers, conquered the PRO title. The same driver line-up is also taking part in the European one-make series.

In the 2017 edition, excellent results were obtained also by Paul Scheuschner and Hendrik Still, winners in the PRO-AM with Konrad Motorsport. The two drivers then debuted in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe with the same team. Similarly, the eighteen-year-old German Carrie Schreiner made her debut behind the wheel of a Huracán Super Trofeo in the Middle East series and immediately demonstrated her racing abilities.
