Will Owen goes into the fourth round of the European Le Mans series backed by his American team of United Autosports with the goal of winning the 4 Hours of the Castellet 2017. A win would mark their third victory of the season and give them the lead in the championship point standings over season rival, G-Drive Racing.
With a mid-season battle closer than any in the history of the European Le Mans Series, Owen is going into this weekend just four points away from leading the championship with United Autosports. Similar to a few weeks ago at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, Owen will be seeing the 5.8 kilometers of Circuit Paul Ricard for the first time in a race setting. Pulling from his experience testing here and the knowledge of his teammates matched with the reliability of the United Autosports crew will make the perfect combination for another successful weekend.
The 21 year-old indulged in a run on foot around the track today with his teammates in preparation for the first track session tomorrow afternoon. Another test and qualifying will take place on Saturday August 26th, while the green flag for the 4 Hours of the Castellet 2017 is scheduled to wave at noon local time on Sunday the 27th.
WILL OWEN – DRIVER: “We are preparing for round four of the ELMS championship this weekend and everyone is getting really excited. We think we have a chance to well again this weekend, especially since everyone has been pushing so hard to get ready. It’s looking promising since I’ve had three days of testing here already this year, which makes me feel good about the driving aspect of the weekend.
I think our set up for the car is getting pretty close so hopefully we will dial that in over the next two practices. While we might have a disadvantage in top speed compared to the other LMP2’s, I think we might have an advantage in tire wear. Hopefully those things will cancel each other out and we will have a fair chance for the win. Either way we will push and do the best we can.”
