Passing on the DTM baton at BWT Mücke Motorsport ahead of the ADAC GT Masters: Edoardo Mortara will be taking over the number 26 Mercedes-AMG GT3 that had been allocated to Lucas Auer for the Sachsenring event. The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM driver will be sharing a cockpit with Sebastian Asch on this penultimate weekend of the 2017 Super Sports Car League.
Lucas Auer, who had previously stepped in for BWT Mücke Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring and Nürburgring, would also have liked to get behind the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 again at the Sachsenring. The 23-year-old Austrian is currently second in the 2017 DTM championship and has found his diary filling up with PR and marketing dates between now and the DTM race weekend at Spielberg. Auer therefore felt that there would not be enough time to make adequate preparations for the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring, not least because he has never driven a GT car on this track. Consequently, he and the team decided to offer the seat to Edoardo Mortara.
In fact, the Italian has been in action for BWT Mücke Motorsport only recently – and with some degree of success. When the team made its debut entry in the VLN not long ago, Mortara partnered by Christian Hohenadel finished fifth, making them the best-placed Mercedes-AMG in the entire field. Just how assured he is in his handling of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 was demonstrated by a P3 finish in this year’s 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps.
Together with Asch, Mortara is aiming to build on the success so far achieved by BWT Mücke Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters. The Berlin-based team with the illustrious past has already recorded one race win and made two podium appearances during its very first campaign in this series. As the only contestant ever to have lifted the ADAC GT Masters championship trophy twice, Asch is currently occupying the fifth spot in this year’s table. Now, with Mortara’s support, he intends to move up the standings.
Peter Mücke: “First of all, I would like to thank Lucas Auer for what he has done here at BWT Mücke Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters. He was a great substitute for my son Stefan on the occasions when he was absent due to prior commitments in the WEC. We fully understand that Lucas would like to focus on his challenge for the DTM title and on all the associated dates in his diary. We are keeping our fingers crossed for him in the championship. But now, we are looking forward to working with Edoardo Mortara. He already put in an impressive performance when he drove for us in the VLN.”
Matthias Kieper: “We are very pleased that Edoardo Mortara is about to line up for BWT Mücke Motorsport again. In the VLN, he impressed us with his high level of driving skills and he also integrated well into the team. We feel sure that we have found a strong and fast co-driver for Sebastian Asch, who can support him in his fight for the championship.”
