The Spaniard of Kurdish heritage started out on the right foot at the wheel of the Squadra Corse-backed Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series. Tutumlu stepped third onto Silver Cup podium during today’s Qualifying Race at Nürburgring.
Isaac Tutumlu made a good start to the weekend in the Blancpain GT Series at Nürburgring with Qualifying Race taking place today. The Spanish driver of Kurdish ancestry delivered a strong performance in his Lamborghini Huracán GT3 for his debut in the main GT3-based racing series all around the world.
On Friday, Tutumlu and his teammate Max van Splunteren completed two positive free practice sessions taking fourth place twice in the Silver Cup with lap times of 1:58.595 and 1:56.864 respectively. Today, the duo made it into the Q3 and secured first place in the Silver Cup and lined up 15th overall on the starting grid. Netherlands’ van Splunteren drove the opening stint of the 60-minute race and, despite losing some places at the start, handed over to Tutumlu with the Lamborghini machinery firmly in the fight for podium honours and 21st overall. In the second half of the race, Tutumlu kept in podium contention and finally took the chequered flag 3rd in the Silver Cup and 21st overall.
“It was a nice day. We secured Q3 presence in qualifying. Our work was excellent on Friday because we managed to improve set-up of our Lamborghini. So, it was really good to drive today. I gained extra mileage in the Huracán because yesterday was difficult due to changeable weather”, Tutumlu explained. The driver from Barcelona also said: “Max lost several places at the race start as another hit him, which is quite normal considering there are many cars out there! I started my stint in 21st and finished in the same place. The Blancpain GT Series is a closely-fought championship and it’s extremely hard to move through the field. Anyway my lap times was rather competitive and my pace wasn’t far from an official Lamborghini factory driver such as Christian Engelhart.”
