It’s been a little while since my last update…
…but there’s been plenty on the go on and off the race track. Catch up on the latest happenings below, in preparation for the new season – with new teams, new cars and new challenges.
BoP Testing in Thailand
The year started with a trip to North Thailand, back to Buriram – a circuit I know well from the past couple of seasons – to set the BoP (Balance of Performance) for the GT3/GTM cars in the Thailand Super Series.
What does this mean? Getting let loose in around a dozen different machines back-to-back, all on new tyres, then adjusting the weight/restrictor size/boost pressure/ride heights of each until the entire field are performing within a couple of tenths of a second of one another.
During the BoP testing I also had the opportunity to sample the new TA2 TranZam cars, bought into Asia from the USA by ex-pat Kiwi Craig Corliss. I cut a few laps in the awesome Ford Mustang and had an absolute blast.
This first outing with the Thailand Super Series won’t be my last this season. More on that later…
Lamborghini Academia at Bathurst
I don’t think it’s possible to turn down an opportunity to drive around Bathurst, even if it’s without a rollcage!
For the first time, Lamborghini’s top level Academia driving event visited Bathurst in early February. I had a blast behind the wheel of both the Aventador SV and the new Huracan Performante, as did the customers riding behind and alongside us instructors!
This Weekend: NZ Touring Cars at Hampton Downs
This weekend is my first outing of the 2018 season. With my Asian programmes still brewing (they’re not far away, I promise!) I’ll roll out in the final round of the NZ Touring Cars at Hampton Downs this weekend with DFM Racing in their Ford Falcon – a car familiar to followers of the North Island Endurance Series.
The DFM team have been friends since I first raced an HQ Holden as a 14-year old, and the Falcon will be something different, and something fun for sure. I rarely turn down an opportunity to drive anything with four wheels!
If you’re coming out to the event, do pop into our garage and say hello.
