FIRST ALL-SPANISH TEAM SET FOR NURBURGRING 24 HOURS

Guillermo Aso, Joaquín Capsi, Toni Castillo and Álvaro Fontes will contest the 2019 edition of the Nürburgring 24 hours driving a SORG Rennsport-entered BMW 240i Cup. It’s the first all-Spanish team at the legendary endurance event at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The 24 hours of Nürburgring, which will take place on 20-23 June, will see another milestone achieved by the Spanish motorsport with four Spaniards sharing the same car. Guillermo Aso, Joaquín Capso, Toni Castillo and Álvaro Fontes willdrive a SORG Rennesport-run BMW 240iCup at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. SORG Rennsport are true specialists at the 24-hour marathon in Eifel as they won their class in the past five editions. On the other hand, the 240i Cup car includes an EVO package in comparison with the previous M235i Cup featuring more power and improved aerodynamics among others.

Capsi and Castillo already have a Nordschleife Permit A,a special license what is mandatory to take part at the Nürburgring 24 hours. Both Aso and Fontes have to obtain it entering two VLN races prior to their debut at the mammoth event and completing over 75% of the class winner’s race distance. After that, the four-driver line up will enter the ADAC 24-hour qualifying race,a six-hour race scheduledon 18-19 May.

“I’m extremely proud of having three fellow countrymen joining me. They really loved the idea. It’s a pleasure to complete the first all-Spanish team at the Nürburgring 24 hours. Besides, I believe we all are experienced drivers and, for sure, I’m convinced that our team has got the potential to achieve a strong result” explains Capsi, underlining that “our deal with SORG Rennsport is a fantastic new because they have an incredible technical staff and their results speak for themselves. SORG Rennsport and we can achieve success together at the most challenging circuit in the world.” Fontes adds: “It’s a true pleasure to enter the Nürburgring 24 hours. Everybody knows the race and the circuit. And it’s even better to team up with these teammates! I’m looking forward to begin the challenge.” Similarly, Aso comments that “I already raced at Spa-Francorchamps during my Honda Cup days a few years ago. Now this opportunity gives me a incredible chance to make my debut at another dream place such as Nürburgring. Lastbutnot least,an all-Spanish team is something completely new. It fills me with pride and high hopes” Finally, Castillo stresses “I’m excited with this project because it’s an important milestone for the Spanish motorsport to have four teams sharing the same car. Besides, our class is the most closely-fought one. I feel optimistic of being competitive because we all are experienced drivers….
