After over a month since the last IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) race, TeamTGM is eager to return to the grid for the Mid-Ohio 120 this Saturday.
Entering its second consecutive year running at the 2.4-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, TeamTGM makes its return with its two-car Mercedes-AMG GT4 lineup.
Just missing out on a podium finish in last year’s edition of the race, Owen Trinkler and Hugh Plumb are aiming to best that result in the No. 46 Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis (JKTG) Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4.
With one year under their belts and a test day this year, Ted Giovanis and Guy Cosmo will pair to drive the No. 4 JKTG Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4 for the second ‘short’ IMPC race of the season.
Trinkler’s record at Mid-Ohio is an example of his healthy sports car career with two pole positions in 2008 and 2011 and his best finish to date just last season after nearly missing out on a podium position, finishing fourth.
“Mid-Ohio is definitely one of my favorite tracks and I’m excited to get back there with the Mercedes-AMG,” said Trinkler. “We have done a lot of development on the car since last year so I think we have a good shot this weekend. We came close to a podium here last year and we are really going to try and capture that on Saturday.”
Plumb will be making his fifth appearance at Mid-Ohio this weekend and is hoping to generate some championship momentum as the team targets a defense of its 2018 title.
“I’m looking to get back on track after some rough finishes in the first two rounds,” said Plumb. “It’s still early days in this championship, but competition is always stiff that’s what makes this racing as good as it is. I have the best team possible around me so I will expect a good finish this weekend.”
Coming back to racing action with lessons learned from the first time competing at Mid-Ohio in the Mercedes-AMG GT4, team owner and driver Giovanis is hoping to see two strong results this weekend.
“Last year was a development year for TGM with the new cars for essentially every track,” said Giovanis, who has a busy schedule that also includes racing in multiple disciplines. “We believe we have the right set up for this round and so we are looking forward to returning to Mid-Ohio. From a personal perspective, I have had several positive results in recent weeks, so I am looking forward to this weekend. Collectively as a team, we are confident.”
A veteran at Mid-Ohio, Cosmo has one pole and one win at the 2.4-mile road course.
“Last year we were very strong at Mid-Ohio,” said Cosmo. “After the progress we made with the cars last season and the efforts over the winter and through the first few races this year we should be strong contenders once again. Mid-Ohio has always been one of my favorite race tracks and I’m looking forward to getting back there with the team.”
The Mid-Ohio 120 race weekend will kick off with practice on Friday followed by a busy Saturday which will feature qualifying (10:05am ET) and race which will go green at 1:45pm ET on IMSA.tv.
