Championship challenging Blancpain Endurance Cup team Oman Racing heads into final qualifying for round two of the season at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit this morning, Sunday, 12th May, eyeing a very strong performance as the squad bids for another Pro-Am podium at the famous British track.
Ahmad Al Harthy, the 2017 Pro-Am Champion, is carrying plenty of confidence into the all-important trio of grid determining sessions today in which the Muscat driver and team-mates Charlie Eastwood and Salih Yoluc should show strongly in the ultra-competitive class in their No.97 Aston Martin.
Everything started smoothly for Al Harthy in the initial ‘Bronze’ test session at the Northamptonshire track on Friday, 10th May, where he posted the fifth fastest time in Pro-Am as preparations began to get underway for the weekend’s three-hour race.
On Saturday, in the morning’s free practice session, the Oman Racing trio concluded the run a superb second quickest in Pro-Am, with a lap of 2m00.199 seconds, which was also an impressive third overall from the combined 48 car entry.
Spending most of the day focusing on race set-up and race simulations, in the subsequent 90-minute pre-qualifying period in the afternoon Al Harthy, Eastwood and Yoluc ended the session fifth fastest in Pro-Am, a lap of 2m01.882 seconds.
Coming into the second event of the 2019 season, of course, Al Harthy and the Oman Racing squad hold third in the Pro-Am championship standings after securing a very hard-earned, and well deserved, top three podium finish last month during the season-opener at Monza in Italy.
“Everything has started well for us this weekend”, said National Bank of Oman, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Omantel and Barr Al Jissah backed racer Al Harthy, “We completed some long runs on Saturday, with a race simulation and also a bit of a qualifying run, so we’re in a good place ahead of final qualifying here at Silverstone.
“We’re still learning the car, it is a brand new car for this season so every time we’re out on track we’re learning something new. Everyone is working hard to maximise our performance, so we’re all focused on doing the best job possible and hopefully be in a position to fight for another podium.”
Final qualifying ahead of round two of the season gets underway at 09.40 (local time) this morning at Silverstone GP Circuit with the three-hour race itself following at 15.00 (local time). Live coverage will be streamed online HERE
