MEYER SHANK RACING LEADS IMSA CHAMPIONSHIP HEADING TO WATKINS GLEN

Entering its 16th straight year of competition at Watkins Glen International, Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) is aiming to continue its podium streak at the track this weekend with a big result in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.

Leading the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Class points, MSR drivers Mario Farnbacher, Trent Hindman and Justin Marks will share the driving duties in the No. 86 MSR Acura NSX GT3.

From 2004 to 2010, Meyer Shank Racing competed at Watkins Glen International twice each year in the Rolex Sports Car Series; once for the Six Hour and once for a sprint event that ran in conjunction with NASCAR’s traditional August event weekend.

Twelve top five finishes, three podiums and one win later, Meyer Shank Racing is hoping to continue that trend this weekend with the No. 86 Acura NSX.

Farnbacher has claimed two pole positions at the Glen in 2016 and 2018 as well as a podium finish in 2016. Teammate Hindman also has countless laps around Watkins Glen having competed at the Glen in both the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo for the past five years. Hindman has four Trofeo wins under his belt as well as a 2015 IMPC podium.

Farnbacher and Hindman will once again be joined by Marks, who has nine sports car outings and one NASCAR Xfinity start at the track. His record also includes two pole positions and four podium finishes as he aims to claim his first ever win at The Glen.

Meyer Shank Racing Team Quotes:

Mike Shank

“The Glen is one of my favorite tracks that we go to. Historically we have done well there with the Acura. We won in 2017 and podiumed in 2018 so we have a good baseline. It will come down to some BOP changes but I think we have a strong program heading into the race weekend.”

Mario Farnbacher

“We know that the Acura NSX GT3 works pretty well there, but we will see what the BOP is like. But the team will execute no matter what with good pit stops and preparation. I am really looking forward to it and it is one of my favorite tracks on the calendar. We know that there will be some other manufacturers that will be strong there so we will have to continue to work hard. Now, with these GT3 cars it is a bit tougher to overtake, especially at the Glen because there are not many slow corners. So having a good top speed will be really important. I know my teammates and the Meyer Shank Racing guys will do a great job, so I am feeling pretty confident.”

Trent Hindman:

“The Six Hours of The Glen is an event that I’ve been looking forward to running ever since my integration into the IMSA world. Having been a spectator for this race over the last few years, it’s nice to finally have the opportunity to not only drive here but also have a real shot at victory with Mario, Justin, Mike (Shank) and Meyer Shank Racing. We’ve had some time to recover and refocus following a tough outing in Detroit, but we know the Acura NSX GT3 is a phenomenal car around The Glen, and we have an exceptional team that’s hungry for wins after showing lots of promise and coming so close earlier this year.”

Justin Marks:

“I’m thrilled to get back in the MSR Acura at The Glen. Mario and Trent have proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the GTD class this year and I’m looking forward to getting back in the groove with them. I think we’ve had great pace at the first two endurance races this year. Watkins Glen is a unique challenge that places an emphasis on pace and strategy, two things this team excels at. We’re still in the hunt for this championship and a strong result this weekend will strengthen that run.”
