SMP RACING CREW TAKES SECOND PLACE IN THE BLANCPAIN GT SERIES ENDURANCE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

SMP Racing drivers took part in the final round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, which took place at the Spanish Barcelona circuit. The crew of Mikhail Aleshin finished in fifteenth position and was classified second in the teams’ standings out of 33 teams from around the world fighting for the title.

In qualifying, the crew of the SMP Racing team consisting of the Russian Mikhail Aleshin, the Spaniard Miguel Molina and the Italian Davide Rigon was 13th fastest driving an average lap of 1:45.579, just 0.5 seconds behind the holder of pole position. In the race, the Ferrari 488 GT3 #72 first sustained a puncture, which is why it dropped down and lost many positions. After having gained a large number of positions, the Russian #72 SMP Ferrari collided with a rival’s car. As a result, the team did its best to gain positions again and finished the three-hour race in fifteenth place, only one point away from the winner of the championship.

SMP Racing driver Denis Bulatov driving for the Rinaldi Racing team was 24th fastest in qualifying lapping in 1:46.110. In the race, the crew managed to win back a large number of places and finish in eighth position.

“First of all, I want to congratulate the entire team and the SMP Racing program on a wonderful result,” SMP Racing driver Mikhail Aleshin said. “Second place, of course, is not the first one, unfortunately, today luck was not on our side. First, one of the Mercedes drivers hit my car, and therefore we lost a lot of time when replacing a damaged wheel. Then, when we were gaining positions, my teammate had an accident, and this was basically the end for us in the battle for the championship. I want to say many thanks to the team. Second place is a result that we still have not had before in this championship. We have something to achieve in the future. Thanks to all the fans who supported us, it is very important for us.”
