The Toulouse-based Tech1 Racing team is entering the GT World Challenge Europe this season. For this second year of collaboration with Lexus, the #15 RC F GT3 will be entrusted to a young French drivers line-up.
Aurélien Panis and Thomas Neubauer will take part in the Sprint Championship, with Timothé Buret completing the Endurance line-up.
Sarah Abadie -Team-Manager Tech1 Racing: “Motorsport is an eternal restarting. For its 21st season, Tech1 Racing faces a new challenge: winning the Silver Cup in GT3.
We are very happy to be working with Lexus again. This year, we are giving our full confidence to youth with this trio of “silver” drivers whose average age is 23 and whom we know very well, having worked together in the past in different categories. By confirming Aurélien Panis as Official Driver, Lexus is paving the way for young people to represent the brand in GT.
Aurélien Panis is a talented and steady driver who has worked alongside us in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2015. He has a very good experience in single-seater racing and has been able to show great things in recent years in various championships.
Timothé Buret started endurance racing with us and has acquired a solid experience since 4 years by participating in the ELMS and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with our team. Last year, we called on him to reinforce the amateur line-up for the Total 24 Hours of Spa in GT3 with the Lexus and at the end of this event, it was a common desire to carry on in 2020.
Thomas Neubauer is a driver full of energy and enthusiasm, with a great thirst to win. He is the only one of the trio to have taken part in a full season in GT3. His experience will be very useful for his team-mates.
We would like to thank Lexus very much for trusting us to continue our collaboration with the RC F GT3. We are very grateful too that, beyond the technical and sporting side, Lexus has supported our idea of creating a program with young drivers to contribute to boost this great brand in GT.
All is in our hands to take up the challenge of winning the Silver Cups in GT World Challenge Europe and put Lexus in the spotlight. »
Olivier Naus – Manager Brand, Events & Motorsport Lexus Europe: “Lexus Europe is looking forward to the new season with Tech1 Racing and Olivier Panis in the World Challenge Europe Championship. We can’t wait to see the car on track!
The 2020 line-up with Aurélien, Thomas and Timothé puts us in a strong position. We are convinced these drivers are the future of motor racing, and we can’t wait to see them at the wheel of the RC F GT3!
Aurélien Panis – GT3 GTWCE Endurance Cup & Sprint Cup Driver: “I am very happy and proud to join Lexus in the GT World Challenge Europe with the status of official driver. It’s also a real pleasure to be back with the Tech1 Racing team with whom I made my Formula Renault 3.5 debut and had the chance to take part in a few races last year in Blancpain Sprint with the Lexus. Sharing this season with Thomas Neubauer (in both endurance and sprint) and Timothé Buret (in endurance), two fast drivers with a very good state of mind, is more than motivating! Our trio is solid, and we will be obsessed by fighting at the front of the field in the Silver Cup and putting the Lexus at the top of the standings. Everything’s in place for a great season, and I’m already looking forward to the first tests with the team.”
Thomas Neubauer – GT3 GTWCE Endurance Cup & Sprint Cup Driver: “I’ve already shared two seasons in single-seater racing (in 2017 and 2018) with Tech1 and I’m looking forward to joining them again in this great project. I intend to take advantage of this opportunity to express myself at the wheel of the Lexus, demonstrate the huge potential of this car and make the brand shine in Europe. With my two fellows, we are well-equipped to turn this season into a success. »
Timothé Buret – GT3 GTWCE Endurance Cup Driver: “It’s a new challenge for me to join this adventure in GT World Challenge Europe. My experience in a Lexus last season in Pro-Am during the Total 24 Hours of Spa convinced me to carry on. My motivation is also reinforced by the opportunity to work with such a major manufacturer as Lexus. Moreover, it’s really satisfying to be alongside Aurélien Panis and Thomas Neubauer with whom I share many values. We’re going to do everything we can to be at the top of the grid and fight for podiums. I can’t wait to get back to the team and to get back on the podium.”
