In today’s 15-minute qualifying session, Ryan Briscoe recorded the fastest official lap in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R for the brand with a time of 1:50.216. Although Felipe Nasr, No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R went faster with a lap of 1:50.216, he brought out a red flag after going off and getting stuck in the Turn 3 gravel. As a result of stopping the action his previous lap, which was his fastest, was disallowed bringing him back to seventh for the start of the 2 hour and 40-minute race to take the green at 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow.
Briscoe will start the black Cadillac DPi-V.R from the third row in fifth and hand over to teammate Renger Van Der Zande. The Wayne Taylor led team is in a tie for the DPi points championship.
“It was really fun to qualify the Cadillac DPi-V.R around here,” Briscoe said. “It’s just a super-fast track with very high commitment, so it was really enjoyable. Unfortunately, we were way off the pace from the Acura and Mazda cars due to the BoP [balance of performance]. It felt like a really strong effort in qualifying for me. I’m looking forward to the race where we can hopefully make some strategy work and get to the podium.”
