OAK RACING ART CAR FOR THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LE MANS 24 HOURS

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours OAK Racing wishes to pay homage to the Sarthe event. The Le Mans-based team in collaboration with Speed Art gave the green light for the creation of an Art Car figuring the circuit itself as well as safety both on the track and on the road. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest has given it the prestigious label “Le Mans 24-Hours’ 90th anniversary Art Car.”

The name of the artist will be announced shortly and then the Art Car will be unveiled! It will be given an official presentation on 31st May during the evening organised by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest in the Georges Pompidou Centre for Art and Culture in Paris for the 90th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

An Art Car has multiple functions: a work of art, a racing car and a dream car. The OAK Racing Art Car will not be an exception to this rule, but it will be unique in itself. First LM P2 in the history of the Art Cars, one of the team’s Morgans will start the 24 Hours clad in a special livery – and there’s more to come!

Jacques Nicolet, OAK Racing President

“The idea of an Art Car came out a meeting with an artist around a passion for motor sport, endurance, and especially the Le Mans 24 Hours. It was a slightly crazy idea to relate art to racing from an innovative angle. Thanks to the famous tradition initiated by Hervé Poulain the Art cars are indelibly linked to the history of the Sarthe event, and we feel very honoured that the Automobile Club de l’Ouest has decided to make this Art Car the symbol of the ninetieth anniversary of the Le Mans 24 Hours.”

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest

“We liked the project that Jacques Nicolet presented to us straight away. The quality, the originality and the symbolism of the work of the artist are clear illustrations of the values of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the history of our event. So it seemed only logical to us to make this work of art a symbol of the 90th anniversary of the Le Mans 24 hours. Artistic expression has always been a central feature of the Le Mans 24 hours whether through the cinema, painters, photographers and the art car tradition dear to the heart of Hervé Poulain.”
